Calling all businesses! Sign up to Dartmoor challenge to support end-of-life care

Trek across Dartmoor with your team mates to support Hospiscare

Employers seeking opportunities to build team spirit and boost morale have a unique opportunity to work with our local charity and give back to the local community.

For the first time, Hospiscare is inviting local businesses to enter teams into Dartmoor in a Day, a 30km (18.6 miles) challenge on 6 September 2025.

Employees can trek across wild and rugged Dartmoor – including stunning views and the national park’s ‘volcano’ – to raise funds for end-of-life patients across the heart of Devon.

Hospiscare supports more than 2,000 patients every year across Exeter, Central and East Devon

Entries to the challenge are now open, and, for those who sign up before midnight on May 14, there’s an added bonus of winning a seven-night stay in a beautiful South Hams studio apartment.

‘Dartmoor in a Day’ starts at Postbridge and finishes in Ivybridge. It’s hosted by Climb South West, experts in navigating Dartmoor. Their qualified mountain leaders will be out on the course assisting participants throughout the challenge.

The challenge is achievable by anyone with a good level of walking fitness. Businesses of any type, and teams of any size, can enter.

Hospiscare’s Partnerships Manager, Ellie Melmoth, says: “This is a great team-building challenge with a difference, and a fantastic opportunity to stretch your team’s comfort zone, push boundaries, and maybe bring colleagues back together after long periods of working from home.

“Team members will cultivate trust and communication skills, and develop and flex their leadership muscles, while trekking through highlights of the Dartmoor wilderness, including Bellever Tor, West Dart stepping stones, Ryder’s Hill, and the Dartmoor ‘volcano’.

“Instead of paying for a team away day, you can help support end-of-life care by bringing your team to Dartmoor in a Day.”

The cost is £63 per person, or £89 including transport to the start line. Entry fee includes GPS tracker hire.

Full information on required kit and maps will be provided by Climb South West. There’s also an opportunity to get a head start by nominating a team leader and deputy to attend a navigation workshop prior to the event.

Awards will be given on the day to the fastest team, and the highest fundraisers. Everyone will receive a finisher’s medal and a limited-edition T-shirt.

Ellie continues, “It’ll be a race against the clock – and the other contenders! The route is unmarked, so you’ll be relying on maps, GPS, and each other, to navigate to the finish line.

“Fundraising together is a key element of this challenge — set targets, create a strategy, and make a difference while taking on this unforgettable adventure. Gather your team and sign up today!”

Anyone signing up by May 14 will be entered into a draw to win a seven-night stay at The Mew in Dartmouth – a charming one-bedroomed studio apartment in the beautiful South Hams town on the River Dart. This prize was kindly donated by James Venmore, of Coast and Country Cottages, in memory of his mother, June.
