Caring at Christmas

Caring at Christmas

Your gift will keep Hospiscare's doctors, nurses and therapists in patients’ homes this Christmas – thank you

The role of Hospiscare’s clinical team has changed over the years, but especially in the last year due to the financial challenges we now face.

It’s been heartbreaking to see measures like the reduction of beds on our ward and changes to the care we can give in our community – access to our hospice’s vital care is being reduced because of rising costs and lack of fair government funding.

Despite these real challenges, we’re working hard to ensure we’re still there for people facing terminal illness when they need us, providing outstanding care. We can’t lengthen someone’s life but by truly listening to the patient and their families we can give expert, compassionate care tailored to them, and make sure the days they have left together are the very best days possible.

Any further reduction in our services would leave people unable to access the care they deserve, and so desperately need.

If you are able to give any gift, no matter how small, this Christmas, our dedicated team of nurses, doctors and therapists caring for patients in their homes will be so grateful.

Lou's story

My mum was a real character - she loved her family, adored her grandchildren and had a wicked sense of humour. I can’t quite describe the level of fear when someone you love is deteriorating in front of your eyes. Hospiscare gave us our mum back when we felt we were rapidly losing her. Mum adored giving presents on Christmas Day and it was really important to my dad that we were all together for one last Christmas. Hospiscare gave our family the greatest gift: one last Christmas with Mum – now it’s our turn to give back.

“If we were not referred to Hospiscare when we were, the final weeks of Mum’s life would have been very different. We are so grateful that we had our Christmas Day with Mum in the room. She was asleep but with a raising of an eyebrow, she was with us, taking it all in, lightly pursing her lips to give us kisses. We absolutely cannot lose Hospiscare. Please give whatever you feel able, so that families like ours can benefit from the care of these fabulous nurses, doctors and therapists.”
