The support of local businesses continues to be an essential part of our fundraising at Hospiscare. The benefits to the charity are clear; money raised through sponsorship, charity of the year partnerships and payroll giving help our doctors and nurses to provide vital care to local families.
Forming a supportive relationship with our local charity is just as it sounds: a two-way partnership that benefits your business, as well as our charity. Partnerships like these can have a positive impact on your team’s ability to work together, their morale and their loyalty to the business.
Ernest Jackson and Co Ltd have supported Hospiscare for a number of years and we recently spoke to Becky Warren, their Commercial Finance Director, about the benefits of supporting our local charity.
Ernest Jackson & Co Ltd is a Devon-based company with 200 years’ experience developing, manufacturing and marketing medicated confectionery and vitamin products.
Ernest Jackson has chosen Hospiscare as their charity partner for the past five years, raising over £21,000 for our local charity since the partnership began. Ernest Jackson’s parent company, Mondelez International, supports their fundraising with a cash match scheme to boost funds raised. Becky explains the benefits of this partnership to both Hospiscare and the local business:
“Ernest Jackson & Co Ltd like to support local charities and Hospiscare was nominated by an employee whose mother had been cared for very well by Hospiscare. We have chosen Hospiscare as our primary charity for the past four years and we are pleased to announce that we will be supporting the local charity for a fifth year in 2021.
“Our company has continued to support Hospiscare over the years as we have a good relationship with the charity. They have been able to give us guidance and fundraising ideas, as well as provide valuable newsletters. This is a charity that continues to be close to our employees’ hearts.
“We have enjoyed a range of fundraising activities over the years. Before the pandemic, we held regular bake-offs, barbecues and pub quizzes. We also did some more unusual fundraising, including silent auctions and sponsoring the Crediton Crunch, a 5km run. Since the pandemic, we have had to change our fundraising events to be more virtual. We have held raffles, quizzes and sweepstakes online as well as organising a 5km solo walking challenge.
“As Hospiscare is a local charity, we have offered our staff volunteering days at the Hospiscare warehouse in Marsh Barton, as well as days volunteering in the hospice’s gardens. These volunteering experiences give our staff the opportunity to learn more about Hospiscare and what the charity does. The volunteering opportunities also enabled our employees to have team building and networking opportunities. By volunteering directly with the charity, we are able to see the direct impact of our support.
“We highly recommend Hospiscare as a charity partner and we are happy to share our positive experiences with other local businesses.”
