From March to September, 45 beautiful gardens across Devon opened their gates and welcomed visitors from near and far as part of Hospiscare’s 2026 Open Gardens season.
We’re celebrating the success of this much-loved annual initiative, which brings communities and garden enthusiasts together to raise vital funds for local end-of-life care.

Every year, Hospiscare supports more than 2,200 patients living with life-limiting illnesses across Exeter, central and east Devon. Providing specialist care, comfort, and support to patients and their loved ones would not be possible without the generosity of our local communities.
This year that generosity has truly blossomed, thanks to the incredible kindness and commitment of everyone involved in the Open Gardens for Hospiscare fundraising, which has raised an outstanding £67,210.11.
This achievement belongs to the garden owners who opened their gates, the volunteers who gave their time, and every visitor who came along to enjoy these beautiful spaces while supporting their local hospice.

A season in full bloom
This year’s programme offered a wonderful variety of places to discover. Amongst the usual charming cottage gardens and fabulous country estates, the 2026 diary of events included a vineyard and a castle for the first time.
Sharon Collins, Hospiscare’s Area Fundraiser shared:
“Each garden had its own unique character, and every opening brought something special to the season.”

Among the highlights were some truly memorable events.
Topsham Support Group’s Open Gardens was a wonderful celebration of community spirit. Nine gardens opened their gates, with plant sales, live music and a wonderfully welcoming atmosphere throughout the day. Together, they raised more than £8,000.

We were equally delighted to see St Leonards Open Gardens return to the programme. Eight beautiful gardens welcomed visitors, including one offering delicious cream teas accompanied by live jazz.

Rarely open to the public, Holcombe Court’s open garden events broke records once again, raising an incredible £18,000. For those lucky enough to have visited, it’s easy to understand why this is such a special place.
We were also delighted to welcome new additions to the programme, including Tiverton Castle and Honey Meadow Retreat, alongside several other beautiful gardens. Their involvement helped make this year’s campaign even more memorable.
Of course, we’re as grateful to the returning garden owners who welcome us back year after year. Their continued commitment is what makes Open Gardens such a special and enduring part of Hospiscare’s annual events calendar.

Growing something special together
Our local support groups are always at the heart of the campaign, going above and beyond to turn garden openings into memorable community events.
Sharon said:
“What truly stood out was the wonderful community spirit that flourished throughout the season. We can’t say thank you enough to everyone who makes our Open Gardens season such a success”.
