Hospiscare Heroes – From half marathons to business games

Our Hospiscare Heroes have been flexing their superpowers to support our charity in an incredible variety of ways

Our Hospiscare Heroes are truly super; week after week, they support our local charity with their fundraising endeavours across Exeter, Mid and East Devon, ensuring we can be there for our patients and their families when they need us most.

From all of us at Hospiscare, we are sending a huge thank you to all of our Hospiscare Heroes. Read on to find out how they have been flexing their superpowers this week.

It was a real (half) marathon weekend for our Hospiscare Heroes…

We want to thank all those who tackled the Great West Run. The 13.1 mile course is certainly no walk in the park (and nor is the 10k, especially if you’re dressed as a giant blue bird!), but as always, #TeamHospiscare gave it their all.

So far, they’ve raised a steptacular £5,874 for Hospiscare but there’s still time to show your support – Please click here if you would like to make a donation.

We’d also like to thank the amazing Hospiscare Cheer Squad who turned out to make some noise for #TeamHospiscare, jingle bells, pom-poms and all!

Huge thanks also go out to Jessica for conquering the Hackney Half Marathon, raising an amazing £1,465 in memory of her dad, Andrew.

Jessica explained: “In his final few months Dad was cared for at home by the wonderful support Hospiscare provided and he found great comfort in the visits he received from their nurses.”
Determined to make a difference and ensure we could be there for other patients and their families during the most difficult times, Jessica put her best foot forward  – and we think her smile says it all. What an incredible achievement!

We’d also like to thank Hospiscare Hero, Adrian. After taking up running during lockdown, he recently completed his first half marathon, The Hackney Half! He whizzed round the course in 01:53:31 and in doing so, raised an amazing £1,624 for Hospiscare.

Adrian said: “The fantastic people at Searle House hospice in Exeter do incredible work caring for people at the end of their lives. They looked after our mums – and us – during their final days, and I’ve long wanted to try and contribute something to the good work they do.”

Thank you, Adrian – and congratulations!

We also want to say a huge thank you to Jurassic Fibre for inviting us to share their stand at the Devon County Show this year. The fundraising team attended the event with a fantastic Summer Walk themed stand and promoted the many ways in which people can help support Hospiscare. Thank you to everyone who came to see us over the weekend!

Hospiscare has been selected as the chosen charity for the Exeter Bigwave Business Games this year, which kicked off this week with a Clip and Climb Competition!

Around 26 businesses are competing in the games and all teams have a minimum fundraising target of £350 to raise in support of Hospiscare. We couldn’t be more grateful for the support from Bigwave and our local business community – thank you!

Finally, we’d like to say a big thankyou to Stormpress… As part of their fundraising efforts for participating in the Big Wave Business Games, they have created these beautiful notebooks to help raise money for Hospiscare. Donations start at £10 and can be made here.

Thank you to all our Hospiscare Heroes on behalf of our staff, patients, and their loved ones.
