Hospiscare Heroes: Love and Community Spirit

Our Hospiscare Heroes continue to inspire us all

Our supporters’ kindness, generosity, and community spirit are incredible. Every fundraiser, celebration, and community event organised by local people in aid of our charity helps us to provide compassionate care for our patients and their loved ones across Exeter, central and east Devon.

This month, we are proud to celebrate some of our wonderful Hospiscare Heroes—people with big hearts who have turned special moments and community events into meaningful support for their local hospice.

Golden celebrations for Diane and Dave

We begin with our heroes Diane and Dave, who recently celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary surrounded by friends and family at Lympstone Village Hall.

Rather than asking for presents, Diane and Dave kindly requested donations to Hospiscare in honour of their special milestone. Their celebration was filled with joy, laughter and treasured memories shared with loved ones.

Thanks to the generosity of everyone who attended, an incredible £1,610 was raised for Hospiscare.

We would like to say a heartfelt thank you to Diane, Dave and all who donated so generously while helping celebrate such a remarkable occasion.

Anne and Mike celebrate fifty wonderful years

Anne and Mike also marked an incredible Golden Wedding Anniversary, celebrating 50 years of marriage on 8 February at Ocean in Exmouth.

After celebrating in style with friends and family, the couple headed off on a fabulous Caribbean cruise — a wonderful way to continue such a memorable occasion.

During their celebrations, Anne and Mike chose to support Hospiscare, raising an amazing £309.

Acts of kindness like this truly make a difference, ensuring local families receive comfort, dignity and compassionate care when they need it most.

On Friday 24 April, Hospiscare was delighted to be invited to speak with students at Exmouth Community College about the work we do and the many ways young people can get involved in supporting their local hospice charity.

The session helped raise awareness of Hospiscare’s services and encouraged students to explore how they can make a difference through fundraising, volunteering and supporting local families facing life-limiting illness.

Students were eager to learn more about the charity, asking thoughtful questions and showing great enthusiasm about the impact community fundraising can have across Exeter, central and east Devon.

A heartfelt thank you to Exmouth Community College for welcoming us and helping to inspire the next generation of community supporters.

Craftsmanship on display in Exmouth

We end by celebrating a group of heroes who prove that creativity and craftsmanship can not only brighten our communities but also make a meaningful difference to local families.

Following the phenomenal success of previous years, organisers of the Exmouth Mail Trail will once again decorate the town with a colourful display of knitted and crocheted post-box toppers this summer.

Last year alone, the initiative raised almost £10,700 and, since the very first trail, supporters have raised an astonishing £34,500 for Hospiscare.

With support from Exmouth Town Council and local businesses including Atlas Translations, Osteo and Physio, Exmouth Art Group, Nails on the Exe, Exmouth Chiropractic Clinic Exmouth Healing Centreand the Exmouth Pine Centre, organisers are expanding their creative displays even further this year by introducing crocheted hanging baskets for the very first time.

Special thanks go to Pam Essex, Bryony Crump, Lynn Bee and Clare Suttie for all their hard work in bringing this wonderful community display to life.

Thank you to everyone involved — your support means so much to Hospiscare and the families we care for.

Every donation, fundraiser and act of kindness helps Hospiscare continue providing specialist care and support to local people facing life-limiting illnesses.

To all our Hospiscare Heroes — thank you. Your compassion, generosity and community spirit continue to make an extraordinary difference every single day. We love hearing your fundraising stories, so please share your photos and updates with us on Facebook or Instagram.
