They bring creativity and kindness to life, helping to raise vital funds for our essential end-of-life care services in the community. Let’s celebrate their unwavering dedication to making a difference.
Honiton Does Strictly
For one night only on 16 December 2024, Honiton did Strictly and raised a phenomenal £3,950 for Hospiscare. Six dazzling local couples – Andrew and Lou, Ben and Ruby, Dan and Leonnie, Kai and Finn, Toby and Erika, and Zoe and Rachel – glammed up and danced the night away, to showcase their best moves in support of their local hospice.
Under the glittering lights of Honiton’s multi-arts community venue, the Beehive, the judges – Shaun, Lynne, and Deborah – were impressed, showering every performer with praise. The night wasn’t just about the six couples competing though; the stage was also set for some amazing performances by other talented local acts. With ’10s’ flying out across the board, the audience was treated to an unforgettable show.
Honiton Does Strictly wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication and hard work of so many. A heartfelt thank you to the organisers Lucie Welsman-Manvell and Nathan Hannay, as well as to Caitlin Brown and the East Devon Dance Academy elite and intermediate company dancers, for your captivating performances.
To everyone who supported and attended, cheered from the side lines, and bought raffle tickets – thank you for making the night a resounding success.
Talent in the Heart of Exeter
Our next Hospiscare Heroes, the girls from 5th Exeter Guides, brought bags full of talent and cake to St Matt’s Church in Exeter for their self-organised talent show. The set list featured group performances, music, singing, dancing, spoken word, and poetry, lighting up the community hall with joy and creativity.
Focusing on connection over competition, the girls made sure their friends and families felt at the centre of it all. They not only entertained their audience but also ran stalls, baked cakes, and organised raffle prizes, raising an amazing £307.69.
Thank you, 5th Exeter Guides, for your compassion and community spirit.
Leanne’s First Coffee Morning
Our next Hospiscare Hero, Leanne Herrett, hosted her very first coffee morning at the Kings House in her home town of Honiton. Thanks to Leanne’s outstanding organisation, the event brought people together over a great cuppa, where heartfelt conversations and laughter created cherished memories and strengthened connections.
This special occasion was held in loving memory of Leanne’s mum, Jacqueline Greengrass, who was cared for by Hospiscare.
Through her incredible efforts, Leanne raised £517.09 for our charity and See the Future. Thank you, Leanne, for turning your love and remembrance into a morning to remember.
Wain Homes: Making a Difference
Since joining our 40 Club in 2023, our next Hospiscare Heroes, Wain Homes, have shown incredible support through imaginative fundraisers, including a Director’s car wash and a number of successful coffee mornings.
In November, we were pleased to welcome three of the Wain Homes team to our busy warehouse in Marsh Barton, Exeter for a day of volunteering. Rolling up their sleeves, Millie Carter, Gloria O’Connell, and Aimee Thorogood sorted through our generous donations of clothes, bags, and shoes, helping to prepare stock to fill the shelves of our charity shops in time for the Christmas shoppers.
We’re deeply grateful to the girls for giving up for their efforts and also for the amazing impact the Wain Homes team has made to date, in supporting Hospiscare.
Thank you to all our Hospiscare Heroes for your extraordinary contributions. Together, we’re making a difference in the lives of patients and families when they need it most.
We love hearing your fundraising stories, so please keep sharing them with us on social media. If you’d like to become a Hospiscare Hero, visit our fundraising page to find out how to get involved.
