On Saturday 7 June, volunteers from across Hospiscare gathered at a thank you party to celebrate Volunteers’ Week 2025.
The party took place at Clyst St Mary Village Hall and included the screening of volunteer videos, as well as thank you speeches and awards for individual volunteers.

Hospiscare Chair of Trustees, Mike Williams, delivered a thank you speech and the volunteers enjoyed music from the fantastic Hospiscare Choir.
A feast of tasty, sweet treats were on offer for our volunteers to enjoy and the icing on the cake came when High Sheriff, Caroline Harlow, presented our volunteers with a High Sheriff award.

The award was a truly special surprise for our volunteers and was accepted by two dedicated volunteers, Mary and Wendy on behalf of all our volunteers.
In her role as High Sheriff, Caroline can bestow awards to individuals or groups, often unsung heroes, who have made an outstanding contribution in some way. As the Office is independent and non-political, High Sheriffs can bring together a wide range of people with the community they serve.
Caroline says, “Hospiscare, in all its guises, is embedded in our family. The hundreds of volunteers that contribute to underpinning the service provided, day in and day out is incredible. So many people give their time, their skill and their energy to add value to the essential service Hospiscare provides.
“Volunteers are represented in every single facet of the organisation and present a smiling and caring public face when people need it most. When I knew I was taking on the role of High Sheriff, which provides me with an opportunity to value volunteers, it was a no brainer. I am absolutely delighted to present a High Sheriff’s Award to each and every one of them.”
Hospiscare’s Interim Chief Executive, Wayne Gale, concludes: “Our volunteers are so deserving of this recognition from the High Sheriff, Caroline Harlow. We are so fortunate to have such a strong and dedicated volunteer community. Hospiscare simply could not exist without volunteers.”
