Volunteering with Hospiscare
We are looking to expand our electrical volunteer team, based at the Marsh Barton Warehouse.
By becoming an electrical volunteer, you will help to PAT test and make good, electrical items that are donated, to sell in our shops, generating essential income for the charity. These vital funds then go directly towards providing patient care in the local area.
Volunteering is a vital part of Hospiscare and every volunteer is a valued member of the team. As a Hospiscare volunteer you will help us to keep a wide range of services and activities running for our patients and for fundraising. You can help to spread the word about Hospiscare and support the charity with pride.
The Role
Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Hospiscare in the Electrical Department. This description will tell you everything you need to know about the role.
Location
Hospiscare Enterprise Centre, Marsh Barton, Exeter
Dowell Street Warehouse Shop, Honiton
Activities of the role
As an Electrical Items Tester you might be asked to:
- Clean donated electrical items and appliances
- Thoroughly check donated electrical items
- Carry out PAT Testing
- Prepare electrical items for sale
- Replenish electrical stock to support sales in store
- Identify and research stock for sale on our online platforms
Boundaries of the role
These are not part of the volunteering role and we won’t ask you to:
- Volunteer alone
- Interact with customers
Skills and abilities
We’re looking for someone with:
- Attention to detail
- Experience in electrics
- PAT testing training
- Friendliness and enthusiasm
- Willingness to work as part of a team
Training
You’ll have an induction and we’ll make sure you have all the training you need for your role:
- Role induction
- ‘Volunteering Essentials’ core training for all Hospiscare volunteers

- Regular communication with the warehouse team
- Opportunities for one-to-one discussions
- Informal review after three months of volunteering

- Reimbursement of travel and out of pocket expenses
