Join Hospiscare in remembering a loved one this Christmas

Hospiscare's Light up a Life Celebration returns to Exeter Cathedral

This festive season, our local charity is bringing the community together to remember loved ones who are no longer with us.

Hospiscare’s Light up a Life celebration will be held at Exeter Cathedral on Wednesday 4 December, kindly sponsored by Shoobridge Funeral Services. Doors will open at 5:50pm and the service will commence at 6:30pm.

This year’s service will include performances from Exeter School Junior Choir and Young Voices.

Members of the community can add a dedication to the Book of Memories, which will be available to view at Exeter Cathedral, as well as local churches throughout December until twelfth night.

Hospiscare will also hold two carol concerts in Honiton and Cullompton. Carols at the Park will take place on Sunday 1 December at the Deer Park Hotel, followed by Carols at Padbrook Park at the Padbrook Park Hotel on Sunday 8 December.

Susie Healey, Friends & Family Officer for Hospiscare, explains “As the local hospice charity for Exeter, Mid and East Devon, we know that the festive season can be difficult for those who are grieving, regardless of how many years have passed since the death of a loved one. Light up a Life is an opportunity for us to gather to commemorate the lives of those we miss dearly.”

Paul Shoobridge, Director of Shoobridge Funeral Services who are kindly sponsoring Light up a Life, says: “Shoobridge Funeral Services is very proud to work with Hospiscare again this year, sponsoring their Light up a Life events. Our celebrant, Abigail Price, is also honoured to have been asked to work in collaboration with the spiritual care and bereavement team and she looks forward to creating ceremonies as beautiful and moving as they were last year.

“Very sadly in our line of work, we meet many families who have very personal experience of Hospiscare and they all speak of what a blessing the charity has been to them, and how a sad situation was made just that bit more bearable by the care they received.”

The Hospiscare Tree of Light will shine in memory of lost loved ones on Exeter’s Cathedral Green from November. Hospiscare would like to thank Heaver Brothers, Exeter Cathedral, Cotley Farm and Sherwoods for helping to bring the Tree of Light to life.
