A Devon-based community-style choir has reached the top notes in their fundraising campaign for local end-of-life care.
La La Choirs began supporting Hospiscare in 2010. The choirs’ concert in Exmouth was a huge success, raising £1,000 and heralding the start of an incredible fundraising journey.
Speaking on behalf of La La Choirs, Events Coordinator Claire Colman explains, “Having volunteered in her local hospice as a teenager, our choir director Sam saw first-hand the amazing and important work hospices do. We have also had members of our choir family who have sadly needed the services provided by Hospiscare and it is therefore a charity close to our hearts.”
As the local hospice charity for Exeter, Central and East Devon, we care for over 2,200 patients and their families every year across 1,024 square miles of Devon’s heartland. With just 15% of our funding coming from the Government, in stark contrast to the national average of 27%, we rely upon the generosity of our community to fund our vital services.
In 2023, La La Choirs joined Hospiscare’s 40 Club, an initiative for local businesses and groups to come together with the collective goal of raising £40,000 by the end of the year for end-of-life care.
The choirs’ 300-strong members raised more than their voices, participating in yoga and coffee mornings and even sky dives as the La La Leapers to generate the much-needed funds for the charity.
La La Choirs concluded their 2023 fundraising campaign for Hospiscare with a spectacular concert held in Exeter’s iconic Cathedral. The night was an incredible success, raising over £15,000. La La’s incredible efforts over the course of the year resulted in a whopping fundraising total that exceeded £40,000.
Claire continues, “When Sam discovered that the aim of the 40 Club was to raise £40,000 TOTAL over the year, I think she took it as a personal challenge to raise the whole amount through La La. She’s always believed that it’s important to give back to the community that supports us and goes above and beyond to do that.
“Hospiscare is such an important local charity and to think that we have had an impact on them is an honour. We should all be doing everything we can to raise vital funds for a charity that so desperately needs our support. I hope we can continue to raise money and awareness for Hospiscare for many years to come.”
Hospiscare’s Partnerships Manager, Ellie Williams, concludes, “La La Choirs have gone above and beyond for Hospiscare. From the ‘La La Lads’ taking part in our Men’s Walk to the stunning concert the choirs held at Exeter Cathedral, their support has been invaluable.
“As many of you will have read, our charity is facing a £2.5 million funding deficit due to inequitable funding and rising costs. La La Choirs’ fundraising is exemplary and demonstrates how, when individuals come together, they have the power to bring about change for the entire community.”
