As Christmas approaches and families across Devon prepare to celebrate together, there are many in our community facing a very different kind of December – one filled with uncertainty, heartache, and the need for end-of-life care.
Our charity’s specialist nursing and rapid response teams are working across Exeter, central and east Devon to ensure that local people living with a terminal illness, and their families, receive the care, compassion and comfort they need this Christmas. Every moment of every life matters, and we’re there to make each one count.
Caring for patients – and their families
Our Hospiscare nurses, doctors and therapists provide expert medical care to help patients stay comfortable, dignified and pain-free at home, in the community or on the ward. But their work goes far beyond physical care. For families suddenly finding themselves in the role of carer, our service provides a vital lifeline – someone to call on when things feel overwhelming and confusing, when pain relief is needed, or when advice and reassurance are essential.
Whether it’s helping to arrange medication changes, fitting syringe drivers for continuous pain relief, or simply being a calm, trusted voice at the other end of the phone, our support makes an unimaginable difference, especially at Christmas.
Why your donation matters
As a local charity, we receive only a small portion of our funding from the NHS and must raise over £10 million every year to continue providing expert, compassionate end-of-life care. Thanks to an interim boost to our finances this year, and incredible community support, we’ve strived to recover our financial security, but we are still expecting to face a deficit of £850,000 and the financial challenge remains.
