On Monday 2 December, we welcomed our volunteers to Searle House to enjoy a cuppa, homemade mince pies and some festive music to meet our Volunteer Voice representatives.
The Volunteer Voice group meets regularly with members of our senior management and volunteering team for discussion and consultation on matters affecting volunteers at Hospiscare.
Volunteers and staff gathered in the Supportive Care Hub to chat and share stories while enjoying beautiful piano music from 17-year-old volunteer, Otto, as well as delicious home-made mince pies.
With teas, coffee and conversations in full flow, our Operations Director, Wayne Gale, welcomed the group and thanked everyone for their contribution to Hospiscare. Wayne talked about our funding situation and the vital difference that our volunteers make to Hospiscare’s services. He introduced the Volunteer Voice representatives and shared a few words about their roles and their time volunteering at Hospiscare, from volunteers who have joined within the last few years, to Paula who has been with Hospiscare since its inception in 1982.
Later in the morning, Chervonne Chamberlain, Hospiscare’s Clinical Quality Team Senior Nurse, brought some festive cheer to the occasion with her Santa hat and Christmas t-shirt. Chev greeted the group and thanked them all for coming together for the coffee morning. Chev shared her experiences of working at Hospiscare over Christmas, sharing fond memories of patients on our ward during the festive season.
After working as a nurse since she was 18, Chev joined Hospiscare after her 50th birthday and described working on the hospice ward as the most joyful place that she had worked. After sharing her experiences, Chev asked if there were any questions and one volunteer spoke up to say, “I don’t have any questions, but I do want to say thank you for all you do.”
