Get on your bike for Hospiscare!

Move over Tour de France, there's a new event in town!

Move over Tour de France, our hospice charity is presenting a new cycling event to explore and enjoy our beautiful county.

Hospiscare, the hospice charity for Exeter, Mid and East Devon, is excited to present Tour de Devon; a new cycling event for 2020.

The coronavirus pandemic has had a drastic impact on the charity’s fundraising efforts since March, causing many fundraising events to be cancelled or drastically altered. Despite this, it has been a year of new beginnings for our charity which has led to the creation of the brand new cycle challenge event.

Tour de Devon is a virtual cycling event that will coincide with the Tour de France; from 31 August to 21 September 2020. This gives participants in the virtual cycling event three weeks to reach their chosen target of 50 miles, 100 miles, or for those really looking for a challenge, 250 miles.

The event is open to everyone, from seasoned cyclists to those who have taken it up during lockdown as a new hobby. Riders in the Tour de Devon can choose their routes and plan their own timescales, giving them complete freedom to complete their miles and fundraise over the three-week period.

Every year, Hospiscare supports over 2,000 patients and their families living with a terminal illness in the heart of Devon. Our charity’s vital work has continued throughout the coronavirus pandemic with the hospice’s specialist ward in Exeter remaining open and patients continuing to receive end of life care in their own homes.

We rely on the local community and income from fundraising events to fund 85% of our charity’s services, meaning that patients and families can access this care at no cost.

We could not operate our vital service without the extraordinary generosity of our community, so whether you’re a budding Chris Hoy or a newbie cyclist, gear up and support your local charity by signing up to Tour de Devon.
