Hospiscare Heroes – From BMX Battles to Skydive Superstars!

Our Hospiscare Heroes have been flexing their superpowers to support our charity in an incredible variety of ways

Our Hospiscare Heroes are truly super; week after week, they support our local charity with their fundraising endeavours across Exeter, Mid and East Devon, ensuring we can be there for our patients and their families when they need us most.

From all of us at Hospiscare, we are sending a huge thank you to all of our Hospiscare Heroes. Read on to find out how they have been flexing their superpowers this week.

On Saturday 22 June an incredible event took place at Flowerpots Skatepark, Exeter in aid of Hospiscare. Cookie Jam is an established charity event held annually for the past 15 years to raise money for Hospiscare, the chosen charity of Jamie Bruce’s family; a young Exeter BMX’er who died due to an accident on his 21st birthday.

The day had BMX Freestyle themed competitions, merchandise and games that brought together locals, visitors and all those passionate about Exeter’s thriving BMX community. The event evolved into the biggest BMX Freestyle event in the South West, and is recognised and supported by numerous national and international sports and BMX/skate brands. It truly was an exciting and exhilarating day of fun whilst holding a worthy cause at its heart.

There was specialised merchandise for sale and a raffle held with the proceeds going towards our cause. There was also an afterparty held at The Royal Oak pub with music and fun.

It is so incredible to see such a longstanding and exciting charity event held in the local community. Thank you so much to everyone involved in organising, taking part and attending this great day. We are so grateful and shows the amazing ways you can get involved in fundraising in so many diverse and exciting ways. You really can have fun and do good.

A huge individual special mention to the man behind this event and legacy, Jamie Skinner, a true Hospiscare hero. You can find the link to his JustGiving page here.

Last week Topsham went all Italian for the Topsham Food Festival. One of the headline events was a ‘Cheese & Wine with Friends’ night on Thursday 20 June held by Sharpham Cheese at Topsham Wine Cellar.

The night was a wonderful (or meravigliosa!) experience for all and a huge success. There were great cheeses, pizza, wines, chat, a quiz, silent auction and lots of good cheer! All whilst supporting us here at Hospiscare. Thank you so very much for everyone who was involved in organising, working and attending the night.

This thoroughly delightful evening of pleasure raised an incredible £600 for our charity. This much needed fund will help us continue to provide our vital service in your local area. We are so truly thankful.

Hospiscare Hero Debbie conquered the Cotswold Way Ultra Challenge and raised an amazing £520 for Hospiscare. Fuelled by flapjacks, Debbie undertook plenty of training treks in beautiful Devon in preparation for her challenge. Then, on 23rd June, 47km later, she crossed the finish line!

Debbie initially set herself the goal of raising £250 for Hospiscare, but explained:

“Thanks to all the amazing sponsorship I received, I have been able to more than double that!”

To Debbie and all those who supported her terrific trekking efforts, we’d like to say THANK YOU.

Thank you to all our Hospiscare Heroes on behalf of our staff, patients, and their loved ones.
