Hospiscare Heroes – From Broadclyst bingos to garden gatherings

Our Hospiscare Heroes have been flexing their superpowers to support our charity in an incredible variety of ways

Our Hospiscare Heroes are truly super; week after week, they support our local charity with their fundraising endeavours across Exeter, Mid and East Devon, ensuring we can be there for our patients and their families when they need us most.

From all of us at Hospiscare, we are sending a huge thank you to all of our Hospiscare Heroes. Read on to find out how they have been flexing their superpowers this week.

Firstly, we would like to thank Mike Stevens and everyone at Men’s Shed Ottery for making this amazing planter for our Kings House site. Ian and Matt from the Hospiscare Estates Team are pictured above collecting the planter from the premises in Ottery. The planter’s new home will be in the garden at Kings House Hospice in Honiton. This will make a great contribution to the garden at Kings House, thank you so much for the hard work and craftmanship!

Next, we would like to thank James Hutton from James Devon Hair and Beauty supplies for his generous donation. James created a charity calendar and raised a phenomenal £1210 splitting between two local charities with £605 to Hospiscare. James came to Searle House last week to give this impressive cheque in person. He is pictured with Jackie from the housekeeping team, Toni Hiscocks, Area Fundraiser and Carolyn Hill, IPU Discharge Coordinator. This very kind contribution will enable us to continue providing specialist services locally.

Next, we would like to thank those involved with Broadclyst Social Club at Broadclyst Victory Hall who, over the past 18 months, have raised and donated £732.00 to Hospiscare. This money has been raised from their weekly bingos and donated to us and other local charities on a very regular basis. Area Fundraiser, Sharon Collins was able to visit the club to collect the funds raised. We are so grateful for such fantastic community support! It shows how much difference the community groups can raise regularly over time!

In March, over 30 of our lovely open gardeners came together for afternoon tea at Watermeadow Grange Care Home in Topsham to celebrate the start of the Open Garden programme, sharing ideas and tips for the year ahead.

Thank you to Watermeadow Grange for hosting and providing the tea and cakes! We must also thank Otter Garden Centres for again sponsoring our Open Gardens. Also a huge thank you to everyone who is opening their garden this year for Hospiscare!

Throughout spring and summer, gardeners across Exeter, central and east Devon will open their garden gates and share their beautiful green spaces to support Hospiscare. There are a wide range of gardens to visit including beautiful estates, community gardens and quaint cottages. You can find out more about Open Gardens 2024 here.

Thank you to all our Hospiscare Heroes on behalf of our staff, patients, and their loved ones.
