Hospiscare Heroes: From charity balls to charity football

Our Hospiscare Heroes have been incredibly busy this week flexing their superpowers to support our charity

Every day our Hospiscare Heroes are proving that their creativity, generosity, and determination have no limits. Please read on to find out what they’ve been up to this time.

The past week was truly jam-packed, so let’s dive straight in. Our first story is about Joe, a window cleaner from Exmouth, who will trek the Salkantay Trail from Cusco to Machu Picchu in November to raise funds for Hospiscare.

To meet his fundraising goal, Joe organised a black-tie dinner at Woodbury Park, raising £11,000.

The incredible amount raised by Joe will cover the costs of a bed on Hospiscare’s specialist ward for 10 days. On behalf of everyone at Hospiscare, thank you for stepping out of your comfort zone, galvanising support, and giving those involved a great night out.

The Hospiscare Charity Ball returns to Woodbury Park on 12 April  2025. To book your place, simply email woodburycharityball@gmail.com.

Our next story is about three local businesses—HepcoMotion, Dormakaba, and Heathcoats—who teamed up with Elmore AFC to host a charity football match that raised £1,063.07 for Hospiscare.

The event was held at Elmore’s grounds and featured 11-a-side teams. Quick 15-minute games with long-lasting effects promoted both teamwork and community spirit.

Organised by Dormakaba, Ryan Perry said: “To organise an event enjoyed by everyone who took part, on behalf of such a wonderful charity, is an honour”.

Plans for another charity match in 2025 are already underway. From everyone at Hospiscare, we would like to extend a huge thank you to Dormakaba, HepcoMotion, Heathcoats, and Elmore AFC for coming together for a fun day of fundraising.

Our next Hospiscare Heroes, George, Hattie, Sabrina, and Sandra, have shown us how to conquer the South West Coast Ultra Challenge with ease. While Sandra beat the 10km route, George aced the 25km, and Hattie and Sabrina smashed the full 50km! Together, excluding costs, the team have raised a fantastic £2,315 for Hospiscare.

And they’re not stopping there! The South West Coast Ultra was just one in a series of running events that George will be tackling as part of his Running for Phil challenge. With the Great West Run and South West Coast Ultra under his belt, George has set his sights on the Windsor Half, the Bath Half, and finally, the London Marathon 2025.

Having a jolly good time whilst raising an incredible amount for charity? A piece of cake for Bigwave Marketing, who took part in the Big Wave Business Games for the second year in row!

The team went above and beyond to raise even more funds for us. Through cake sales every Monday, a sponsored 10 mile walk to work, and even having a super-Friday Extravaganza that consisted of raffles, bingo, and lively tombola, they were able to raise a fantastic £824.

Thank you to all our Hospiscare Heroes on behalf of our staff, patients, and their loved ones.
