Hospiscare Heroes – From festive fundraising to Christmas choir raffles!

Our Hospiscare Heroes have been flexing their superpowers to support our charity in an incredible variety of ways

Our Hospiscare Heroes are truly super; week after week, they support our local charity with their fundraising endeavours across Exeter, Mid and East Devon, ensuring we can be there for our patients and their families when they need us most.

From all of us at Hospiscare, we are sending a huge thank you to all of our Hospiscare Heroes. Read on to find out how they have been flexing their superpowers this week.

Two wonderful Hospiscare volunteers at Exmouth Christmas Village stall.

Welcome back to the first Hospiscare Heroes blog of 2024. There were some amazing fundraising efforts over the festive period!

Firstly, we would like thank all who came to support Exmouth and Lympstone Friends of Hospiscare at their fundraising stall at the Exmouth Christmas Village held at The Strand, Exmouth between the 15 – 18 December. The stall held a competition to win a family pass to The World of Country Life. So many wonderful and generous people came along to visit the stall and get involved. We must pay a special thanks to George , owner of Spoken, The World of Country Life and all the businesses that generously donated vouchers and prizes. A huge thank you goes to all the fantastic volunteers that gave their time enabling for this stall to go ahead. The efforts from all were incredible, resulting in a massive £1096.74 being raised for Hospiscare! Fundraising efforts like these raise vital funds that ensure we can deliver specialist end-of-life care for patients and their families! We could not do it without you!

Next, we pay thanks to Hospiscare Choir and Liz Gibbons for organising this incredible Christmas Hamper. Liz has once again kindly donated a bumper hamper to raise money for Hospiscare in memory of her dear husband Steve. Thank you also to Le-Roy Funeral Care who donated an additional hamper! This is the 5th raffle held and was a record breaker! The hamper raised an incredible £1,347! The draw took place on Thursday 21 December with the choir singing carols at Searle House. Thank you to Liz and Hospiscare Choir for supporting the raffle and to everyone who bought a raffle ticket contributing to this record breaking sum!

Graham’s impressive collection of challenge medals!

Finally, we would like to honour a worthy individual effort of fundraising hero Graham Hole. Graham set himself the challenge of competing in 8 races in 8 months, from May to December, culminating with the Hospiscare Final Countdown 10K on New Years Eve. Graham embarked on this challenge in memory of  Kay, loved Mum, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother. The support of Hospiscare was invaluable to supporting the family through the final days of her life. So far Graham has raised £445 which is more than double his fundraising target of £200. You can find Graham’s Just Giving page here. We are so touched and grateful for your support. It enables more people like Kay and her family receive the vital care they require.

We would like to wish all our supporters a very happy 2024! We look forward to seeing the amazing ways you will continue to fundraise for us this coming year!
