Hospiscare Heroes – From in memory fundraisers to tours of the UK

Our Hospiscare Heroes have been flexing their superpowers to support our charity in an incredible variety of ways

Week after week, our Hospiscare Heroes go above and beyond to help us raise vital funds needed to support our patients and their families when they need us most.

This week was no exception, and our Heroes used their superpowers yet again. Please read on to find out what they’ve been up to this time.

Our journey begins in and around Axminster and Dorset, where Nate and Ash—aka the Dopey Bikers—took us for a motorcycle ride. This initiative was met with a great response from a wide range of supporters, and with the speed of light, they were able to raise a phenomenal £176.40.

From everyone at Hospiscare, we are very grateful!

Our next stop brings us to Tiverton where Jim Bray has embarked on a tour of the UK coastline in a bid to boost fundraising for our local charity after we cared for his sister, Emma Ansley.

Following a brave four-year battle with cancer, Emma sadly died in our care in 2022. She was just 48 years-old.

Following news of our £2.5 million funding deficit, Jim was inspired to take on this mammoth road trip, totaling several thousand miles, and including a challenge to visit and photograph every seaside pub on the British Isles mainland and bigger islands. Jim is funding the trip himself, hoping for assistance from accommodation providers, to keep costs down and says:

“Hospiscare is a much-cherished charity that provides outstanding care to over 2,000 people a year at the end of their lives.

“We’ve seen up close what a fantastic job the charity and its staff do, while supporting Emma and our family in her final months in 2021 and 2022. It’s vital that these services are preserved for many thousands of patients and the years ahead.”

Our journey ends in Honiton, where our Heroes were incredibly busy this week. The first massive thank you goes to Di Virgin and all the members of Honiton & District Darts League for organising yet another darts fundraiser. It truly was a night to remember in honour of Paul Kiddle.

Thank you to all those who donated raffle prizes and helped raise an amazing  £404.

Still in Honiton, we would like to send our gratitude to all those who swiped their TOFS app or TOFS card at the till in The Original Factory Shop. By doing so, they were able to get great savings, as well as raise an incredible £153.73 for Hospiscare.

Now that’s what we call superpower! Thank you Honiton Heroes!

Thank you to all our Hospiscare Heroes on behalf of our staff, patients, and their loved ones.
