Hospiscare Heroes – From sunflower picking to festive cakes

Our Hospiscare Heroes have been flexing their super powers to support our charity at this difficult time

Our Hospiscare Heroes are truly super; week after week, they support our local charity with their fundraising endeavours across Exeter, Mid and East Devon and help to save our services for the future. Every pound raised can help keep our vital care service running for local people in need.

From all of us at Hospiscare, we are sending a huge thank you to all of our Hospiscare Heroes. Read on to find out how they have been flexing their super powers this week.

A group of people holding a big cheque

We are thrilled to announce that early in December, Darts Farm presented Hospiscare with an incredible £10,730.66.  The money was raised in September from Darts’ pick-your-own sunflowers, planted and grown by them in their fields and bought by their generous customers.  It was a delight to see adults and children of all ages enjoying the autumn sunshine and taking home armfuls of glorious golden flowers.  This amazing donation will help to safeguard our specialist ward in Exeter and our frontline services across Exeter, Mid and East Devon. Thank you to the team at Darts Farm and to everyone who picked sunflowers in September.

A woman and man holding a big cheque outside Hospiscare

We are sending a huge thank you to Alan Rowe MBE, founder of The Baton Charity, who recently donated £1,000 to our SOS Appeal to help ensure our vital services remain open for the years to come.

Thank you to the Salvation Army Band who visited the hospice on 12 December. The band brought their instruments, as well as plenty of festive cheer, and played in the garden for our patients and their family members to enjoy.

A man with a moustache

Thank you to Arthur, our Hospiscare Housekeeper, who took part in Movember and raised a fantastic £821 for our charity. Arthur says, “On behalf of Hospiscare, I want to thank all of you who donated towards my Movember fundraising and for helping us to make a positive difference. Your support encourages our continued commitment to reach our goal.”

A group of people outside Howdens

We are sending our thanks to Howdens for their continued support of our charity. We are so fortunate to have long-term supporters like Howdens who continue to do everything they can for our local charity through this difficult time.

A festive cake box in front of a poinsettia

We are sending a huge thank you to Tyrannie who created and sold festive cake boxes to raise money for our Emergency SOS Appeal. Tyrannie’s mum, Julie, was cared for by Hospiscare and sadly passed away on 28 November. Tyrannie says, “I would like to say a big thank you to all of the staff at the hospice who looked after my mum. The care the hospice provided was amazing. Nothing was ever any trouble.” Tyrannie raised a fantastic total of £175 with her beautiful festive cake boxes. Thank you to Tyrannie and to everyone who bought her creations.
