Our Hospiscare Heroes are truly super; week after week, they support our local charity with their fundraising endeavours across Exeter, Mid and East Devon, ensuring we can be there for our patients and their families when they need us most.
From all of us at Hospiscare, we are sending a huge thank you to all of our Hospiscare Heroes. Read on to find out how they have been flexing their superpowers this week.
Last week to honour Volunteers Week we have been celebrating with the Hospiscare Volunteers to thank them for all that they do for our Charity. We held two celebration parties to pay thanks to these amazing individuals who enable us to do so much. The parties were held on Thursday 6 June at The Corn Barn near Cullompton and the second on Saturday 8 June at Clyst St Mary Hall near Exeter. There singing from our very own Ellie, awards presented, a ‘Thank You’ video as well as a delicious Cream Tea.
We must pay thank you to the lovely venues made available to us, Yta Batchelor and family at The Corn Barn and Ali West at Clyst St Mary Village Hall. We are very grateful (as were the volunteers who attended!) for the delicious homemade scones produced by our expert chef Lil. Thank you to Sainsburys for donating beautiful flowers and Matt Booker, volunteer for kindly collecting them. Thank you to the always talented Ellie Williams for her special performance and to all Hospiscare Staff who donated their time, efforts and creativity. Thank you to John Capon for volunteering his time and equipment and technical support and all the volunteers involved in filming for our ‘Thank You’ videos.
The events were a great success and allowed us to pay a big thank you to the incredible ongoing efforts of all of our volunteers. If you could not attend a party or would like to watch the My Story video you can find it here.
Hospiscare Hero Paula took to the skies on Sunday to complete a wing walk in memory of her Dad, Tony – who was himself a big supporter of Hospiscare, raising funds for the charity by collecting, sorting, trimming and selling used stamps.
Paula explained:“Dad wasn’t well enough sadly to do the wing walk, so before he died, I told him I’d do it for him!”
Well, Paula has really done her dad and Hospiscare proud! To date, excluding costs, her aerial escapades have raised £1,036 which will make a real difference to our patients and their families.
Thank you, Paula! It was a real privilege to be part of your wing walk journey.
From a hugely successful plant sale in May this year, to completing her wing walk on Sunday, it seems there’s nothing Jean won’t do for Hospiscare!
Inspired by the care her husband Alan received in 2022 on our ward at Searle House, Jean has raised a phenomenal £2,399.99 for Hospiscare this year.
It was a pleasure to spend the day at the airfield with Jean, watching and whooping as the plane’s propeller began to whir in preparation for take-off – and we’d like to say a huge ‘Thank you’ to Jean and to all those who have supported her fundraising efforts.
Feeling inspired? Could you challenge yourself by leaving your comfort zone behind? All for a worthy cause! Visit www.hospiscare.co.uk/wingwalk or email [email protected] for more information.
You won’t regret it!
Hospiscare Heroes Matt and Yan really took their fundraising to new heights by completing the 3 Peaks Challenge in under 24 hours!
Despite the challenging weather and being one contact lense down, the dynamic duo made good time and summited Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa) all to help raise vital funds for Hospiscare.
But what inspired such an epic undertaking?! Well…
Matt explained: “We recently learned of the funding deficit that Hospiscare are facing and that they have scaled back the services they can provide to patients and their families at a very important and difficult time in one’s journey through life. We are both GP’s working in Exeter and value the service that Hospiscare provide, and we wanted to help by fundraising for them so that the services they provide can be maintained or even help to contribute to the opening up of services that have been lost.”
Together, Matt and Yan have raised an incredible £1,928 to help fund Hospiscare’s services and on behalf of our staff, their patients and their families, we’d like to say thank you!
If you’d like to show your support and contribute to Matt and Yan’s amazing total, you can visit their JustGiving page here.
