Hospiscare Heroes – From wreath workshops to committed car boot-ers!

Our Hospiscare Heroes have been flexing their superpowers to support our charity in an incredible variety of ways

Our Hospiscare Heroes are truly super; week after week, they support our local charity with their fundraising endeavours across Exeter, Mid and East Devon, ensuring we can be there for our patients and their families when they need us most.

From all of us at Hospiscare, we are sending a huge thank you to all of our Hospiscare Heroes. Read on to find out how they have been flexing their superpowers this week.

The attendees of the wreath workshop showing off their amazing produce!

We are now well into December so the festive preparations are in full swing! Our first feature is about a lovely event held by Exeter Friends of Hospiscare. On Saturday 9 December the group organised two Christmas wreath making workshops at St Katherine’s Priory in Exeter. The attendees enjoyed tea, coffee and cake with all tools and materials provided. The workshops were run by award winning florist, Tina Parks from the British Academy of Floral Art. The event was a seasonal success and raised an superb £2100 for our cause. The wreaths all look beautiful and what a great way to help fund your local hospice! Your festivities will help provide specialist care to people who really need it. Thank you to all who attended, Tina for her expert tuition and Exeter Friends of Hospiscare for organising!

Toni Hiscocks, Hospiscare Area Fundraiser, Sarah Smith, Head of Public Fundraising, David Hancock and Laura Robertson, Fundraising Projects Manager.

Next, we must pay a huge thank you to David Hancock from Newton Poppleford. David has raised a phenomenal £75,000 to date! What an extraordinary effort. David and his late wife Ros started organising Coffee Mornings over 20 years ago in their village hall.  David’s efforts have continued through the years as he regularly collects and sells goods at local car boot sales. He donates all the proceeds raised to us at Hospiscare. This continued dedication is incredible and we are so thankful. David, you have done so much to enable us to keep providing our services. You are the definition of a Hospiscare Hero!

The wonderful Hospiscare Choir!

Finally, we held our second in-person Light Up a Light event on Sunday 10 December at Padbrook Park, Cullompton. Thank you to: Sue, Richard and the team at Padbrook Park, our brilliant sponsors Shoobridge Funeral Services, the amazing Hospiscare Choir, Andrew Maries for accompanying the Carols so beautifully, Otter Windows for providing the sound equipment, our volunteers and readers and most of all, our supporters for joining us to remember those we love who are no longer with us.

Light Up a Life events are annual celebrations of the lives of lost loved ones with hand-picked readings, poems, music and carols in honour and remembrance of all those people we hold dear. There are still an in-person event you can attend taking place on Wednesday 20 December at Exeter Cathedral. You can also make dedications in the Book of Memories and Gallery of Memories. More information on all of these can be found here.

Thank you to all our Hospiscare Heroes on behalf of our staff, patients, and their loved ones.
