Hospiscare was delighted to receive national recognition at a London awards ceremony that honours excellence in health and social care.
Hospiscare, the adult hospice charity for Exeter, Mid and East Devon, was nominated for a LaingBuisson Award for Excellence in Nursing earlier this year.
The LaingBuisson Awards, known as the Oscars of health and social care, are judged independently and objectively and celebrate the best practice in the health industry.
With over 375 nominations, we were thrilled to be invited to Park Plaza Westminster Bridge as finalists on November 13 2019.
The awards took place just a stone’s throw away from the Houses of Parliament and were hosted by Jo Brand, a former psychiatric nurse and one of Britain’s best female comics.
Our charity faced some tough competition with finalists in our category including Bupa Cromwell Hospital and The Royal Marsden Private Care.
Hospiscare was honoured to be presented the LaingBuisson Award for Excellence in Nursing.
The award recognises the “Excellence in the delivery of nursing services with a focus on innovation, patient management and engagement in the acute or mental health hospital setting across both the NHS and Independent Hospital Providers.”
We won the award for Excellence in Nursing for our Heart2Heart Programme, in partnership with the Royal Devon & Exeter NHS Foundation Trust. The Programme supports people in Exeter, Mid and East Devon living with heart failure and helps them make the most of every day.
Attending on behalf of our charity were Tina Naldrett, Director of Clinical Services and Ann Rhys, Deputy Director Nursing and Care. Tina Naldrett said,
“Winning this prestigious award is very special. Hospiscare is a local charity and this award values and celebrates our expertise and spirit of partnership, through our Heart2Heart work.
“Bringing together the experts in end of life care with experts in cardiology and heart disease has been made all the more powerful by working alongside patients and families who are experts in themselves.
“We had some significant competition in our category, so this award, which celebrates excellence in nursing, is something our teams here at the charity are very proud of.”
Ann Rhys commented,
“It has been great working with the heart failure team on this collaborative project. The Heart2Heart Programme is a self-management group for patients with heart failure and their carers which focuses on understanding their diagnosis, exploring the emotional and practical impact of ill health and supports them in planning for their future.
“Winning this award acknowledges the hard work of all of those involved and will enable Hospiscare to continue providing these sessions going forward.”
