A new opportunity has arisen for volunteers to join our Estates Team, based at Searle House in Exeter, but also involving our other sites.
By becoming an estates support volunteer, you will assist with a variety of tasks associated with the maintenance of Hospiscare properties and grounds.
Volunteering is a vital part of Hospiscare and every volunteer is a valued member of the team. As a Hospiscare volunteer you will help us to keep a wide range of services and activities running for our patients and for fundraising. You can help to spread the word about Hospiscare and support the charity with pride.
The role is varied and rewarding with the knowledge that your efforts make a difference.
Location
- Various Hospiscare clinical and retail sites
Tasks
This is not an exhaustive list but may include:
- Painting and decorating.
- Moving and assemble of furniture.
- Cleaning of rainwater goods.
- Cutting grass and hedges and other garden duties.
- Maintaining paths and walkways.
- Delivery and collection of goods to Hospiscare sites.
- Assisting with supporting patients and family with tasks if appropriate, this may include moving of furniture etc. These tasks might be within patients’ and families’ homes.
- Ensuring the safety of staff, volunteers, public and patients, reporting faults and hazards.
Boundaries of the role
We won’t ask you to:
- Undertake any task that appropriate experience or training has been obtained or certificated to do within legislation.
- Be involved with hands on patient care.
- Offer advice to patients or family members
Skills and abilities
We’re looking for someone who can:
- Be part of a small team as well as work independently in a professional manner.
- Communicate any concerns with the team and give constructive feedback.
- Bring a basic understanding of maintenance and safety procedure when operating tools and equipment (these skills can be built on through appropriate online and hands on training as required for the role.)
Training
You’ll have an induction and we’ll make sure you have all the training you need for your role:
- Role induction
- ‘Hospiscare Essentials’ core training for all Hospiscare volunteers
- Role-specific training
We’ll ask you to:
- Agree to and provide information to carry out a DBS check

- Informal review after six months of volunteering
