The Garden School Orchard, Exeter – Open Gardens

Enjoy a stroll through this secret and newly restored orchard in the heart of Exeter

The ‘Garden School Orchard’ is a hidden gem in St Leonards.  Once a nursery school and orchard, it was left in ruins after a 1942 bomb strike.  Buried under rubble and brambles for decades, only a few original fruit trees survived.

Now being carefully restored, the orchard is opening to the the public for the first time in 80 years, supporting our local hospice.  The ruin has been secured, pathways laid, and new trees planted alongside a wildlife pond.

Please tread gently as the orchard beings its renewal.

Please note that children must be strictly supervised at all times to avoid accidents on rough uneven pathways and to preserve the fruiting trees. Sorry but the ground is not suitable for buggies or bikes.
