We are pleased to announce a merger with Budleigh Salterton & District Hospiscare, which was completed on 1 November 2024.
Both of our charities were founded with the shared purpose of providing specialist end-of-life care for local people living with terminal illnesses and we have collaborated closely for over the last four decades to deliver this mission.
The trustees of both charities have taken the decision in line with guidance from the Charity Commission, to merge and make better use of resources and reduce duplication.
In a joint statement, Hospiscare CEO, Andrew Randall, and Budleigh Salterton & District Hospiscare chairman, Martin Briggs, said:
“This merger is a perfect fit to support our shared values, will provide many benefits and aligns with our joint aims to build a charity which is best equipped to meet the increasing need for end-of-life care in our local community.
“The commonsense change brings together two charities that have shared a name and a common purpose for 40 years. The current outstanding-rated services provided by Hospiscare will continue unchanged and the local palliative care nursing team will continue to serve the communities of Budleigh Salterton and Woodbury from its base at Highview Gardens in Exmouth.
“We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has given generous support to our charities over the last 40 years, and to those who have worked to ensure a smooth and successful transition.”
Mr. Briggs added:
“I would like to take this opportunity to give sincere and heartfelt thanks to all our loyal and dedicated supporters who have given Budleigh Salterton & District Hospiscare their generous support over the years since our formation 40 years ago.
“We can look back on the last 40 years with huge pride for all that has been achieved and all the patients and families whose care our charity has funded. We know that, with the local community’s continued support, we can look forward positively to Hospiscare’s service for the next 40+ years.”
