Hospiscare is pleased to announce the appointment of our new Chair of the Board of Trustees, Brian Aird, from March 2022. Brian will succeed Dr Helen Enright, our Interim Chair of Trustees, who steps back into her role as Vice Chair of the hospice’s board.

Brian brings to the post significant experience at senior and board level in charity governance, strategy, leadership and team development, and health and social care policy.

As Chair of the Board of Trustees, Brian is responsible for providing guidance and support for Hospiscare’s Chief Executive and senior management team and ensuring effective governance of the hospice charity.

Andrew Randall, Chief Executive at Hospiscare, said “The selection of a new Chair is a significant and important decision for any charity. I am delighted that Brian Aird has been appointed as Hospiscare’s next Chair of the Board. Brian’s experience of senior governance and strategic charity leadership and his in-depth knowledge of the healthcare sector will strengthen our hospice and enable us to continue to excel in our mission of providing compassionate, expert end-of-life care to those in need in Exeter, Mid and East Devon.

“In addition to welcoming Brian to Hospiscare, I’d like to express my grateful thanks to Helen for her wise counsel, leadership and support as Interim Chair over the last 12 months and I look forward to working with both Brian and Helen as the hospice moves into our fifth decade.”

Brian says: “I am thrilled to have been appointed as Chair of Hospiscare in the hospice’s 40th anniversary year and to have the opportunity to work with the wonderful team of staff, volunteers and supporters who provide a vital and valued range of services to the people of Exeter, Mid and East Devon.

“My thanks go to the team for their excellent work and to my predecessor, Dr Helen Enright, for leading the hospice through the last 12 months of the pandemic in her role as Interim Chair. I am very much looking forward to starting work with the board, the senior management team and our staff and volunteer teams to deliver Hospiscare’s vision of ensuring local people receive outstanding end-of-life care in the place of their choice.”
