Hospiscare Heroes – From buggy runs to cycle challenges

Our Hospiscare Heroes have been as busy as ever, finding innovative ways to fund raise for our charity at this difficult time

Our Hospiscare Heroes are truly super; week after week, they support our charity with their fundraising endeavours across Exeter, Mid and East Devon. From all of us at Hospiscare, we are sending a huge thank you to all of our Hospiscare Heroes. Read on to find out how they have been flexing their super powers this week.

A woman holding a large cheque and a toddler

We are sending a big thank you to Bev and little Jesse for completing a 5k buggy run around Rockbeare and raising £276!

A group of men outside a gym wearing Hospiscare t-shirts

We are sending a huge thank you to Lydon Ward-Best for his incredible fundraising challenge. Lydon and his American Football team, the Exeter Demons, lifted the weight of the Statue of Liberty (225 tons!) to raise money for Hospiscare in memory of Lydon’s mum, Bronia. Lydon and his team have raised an incredible £3,383 to support our local charity. You can donate to Lydon’s challenge here.

We are also sending our thanks to Steven Harris and Rich Ireland who cycled 150 miles to raise money for Hospiscare and Cancer Research in memory of Steven’s dad, Les Harris. Steven and Rich cycled 40 miles every day for three days and finished with a 30 mile cycle on static bikes. Their amazing effort raised £615.55.

A woman standing outside wearing a Hospiscare running vest

Thank you to Debbie Proctor who ran 32 miles across Dartmoor in memory of her brother-in-law, Clifford, who was cared for by our hospice. Clifford loved the moors so Debbie felt this was the right challenge for her to raise money in his memory. Debbie has raised £842.05 so far and you can donate to her challenge here.

Three men standing outside in summer

Thank you also to Stephen Lea and his sons Hugh and Nick who, after the cancellation of many fundraising events including the Great West Run, decided to run their own half marathon around Exeter’s Green Circle footpath network. Together, they have raised £955 for our local charity. To donate to Stephen’s fundraising, click here.

Two men in cycling gear by a coastal path sign

We are sending our thanks to Archie Forbes Adam who took on an incredible cycling challenge to raise money for our local charity. Archie cycled over 1,000 miles in nine days from Land’s End to John O’Groats. Despite having never cycled more than 75 miles in a day, Archie took on the challenge of cycling at least 110 miles a day over nine days to fundraise in memory of his sister, Tula, who was cared for by Hospiscare at the end of her life. Archie has raised almost £6,000 for Hospiscare – a truly incredible amount that will make such a difference to our patients. You can donate to Archie’s challenge by clicking here.

Thank you to the staff at Seaton Co-op for their donation of £150. Their support means we can continue to be there for our patients and their families when it matters most.

Finally, thank you to the Honiton Support Group and to all of those who supported their bucket collection on 19 June. The group raised an amazing £421.06.

We love hearing your stories about how your are fundraising for Hospiscare so please get in touch with us on Facebook or Twitter to share your photos and fundraising tales.
