Hospiscare Heroes – From chaplain’s charities to Open Gardens

Our Hospiscare Heroes have been busy over the last couple of weeks, finding innovative ways to fund raise for our charity at this difficult time

Our Hospiscare Heroes are truly super; week after week, they support our charity with their fundraising endeavours across Exeter, Mid and East Devon. From all of us at Hospiscare, we are sending a huge thank you to all of our Hospiscare Heroes. Read on to find out how they have been flexing their super powers this week.

A socially distanced cheque presentation

Thank you to Chaplain Tom Carson and everyone at the Exeter School for choosing Hospiscare as their chaplain’s charity and raising an incredible £2,494.90 for our patients. Reverend Tom is also running the London Marathon for us in 2021 as he wasn’t able to do it this year. Good luck Tom and thank you again to all of the staff, pupils and parents for their support.

Thank you also to Paul Stanbrook from Tiverton who has held a second Tiverton quiz for us and raised £150. In the past, Paul organised monthly pub quizzes at Courtenay’s Bar in Tiverton in aid of Hospiscare and wanted to be able to continue supporting our charity during the pandemic. Thank you also to Tiverton Tesco for donating the hamper prize for Paul’s quiz, which the winner was delighted with.

Two women sat on a wooden bench holding a collecting bucket for Hospiscare

Thank you to Nigel, Kathy, Mavis and all of the team at Holcombe Court who, despite less than ideal weather, opened the magnificent garden at the Court on 23 and 24 October, raising an amazing £372.22.

A mature garden with purple flowering shrubs

We are also sending our thanks to our intrepid Axminster gardeners who opened their gardens on 24 October as well. Between them, they made over £850 and luckily the rain didn’t put anyone off enjoying these lovely autumn gardens.

Thank you to Anne Owens and Christine Thompson, both from Honiton, for donating craft items.

Finally, thank you to Cheeky Smee from Colyton Raleigh for donating scrubs to our nurses.

We love hearing your stories about how your are fundraising for Hospiscare so please get in touch with us on Facebook or Twitter to share your photos and fundraising tales.
