Our Hospiscare Heroes are truly super; week after week, they support our local charity with their fundraising endeavours across Exeter, Mid and East Devon, ensuring we can be there for our patients and their families when they need us most.
From all of us at Hospiscare, we are sending a huge thank you to all of our Hospiscare Heroes. Read on to find out how they have been flexing their superpowers this week.
Staff at our ward in Exeter have been giving out pairs of knitted or fabric hearts to patients and their loved ones – with one heart kept by the patient and the other taken by a friend or relative, an initiative that helps them feel more connected.
Budleigh Salterton Lions organised a crafting session at Stanley Mews retirement accommodation to make more ‘Hearts for Hospiscare’. We are sending a huge thank you to everyone in East Devon who has been busy making and creating hearts to donate to this initiative.
Hospiscare Hero Fabienne (pictured above) put her best foot forward and hiked 30 miles across Dartmoor, from the North to the South. The weather on Dartmoor can be unpredictable at this time of year, but thankfully the sun was shining.
Fabienne completed her challenge in an incredible 10 hours and 14 minutes and has now raised over £600 in memory of her mum’s husband, Gilad. If you’d like to show your support, you can donate here.

We are also sending our thanks to Exe Mortgages for holding a Glow in the Dark Dodgeball Tournament for local businesses as part of their 40 Club fundraising. The event was hosted by Sporty Stars and helped raise over £1450 for Hospiscare!

Finally, a huge thank you to Thornes Farm Shop for raising over £1000 at their sell-out Pie & Quiz Night. We would also like to thank Farmhouse Pies & Pasties, Savona Foods, and West Country Fruit Sales who kindly donated delicious food for the evening.
Thornes have also organised a charity skittles match at The Half Moon in Cheriton Fitzpaine on Saturday 25 March, with all proceeds from the evening going to Hospiscare. Entry is £10 per person in teams of 4, including a light supper. To register, please call the shop on 01363 866933.
