Hospiscare Heroes – From donated plants to record breaking open gardens!

Our Hospiscare Heroes have been flexing their superpowers to support our charity in an incredible variety of ways

Our Hospiscare Heroes are truly super; week after week, they support our local charity with their fundraising endeavours across Exeter, Mid and East Devon, ensuring we can be there for our patients and their families when they need us most.

From all of us at Hospiscare, we are sending a huge thank you to all of our Hospiscare Heroes. Read on to find out how they have been flexing their superpowers this week.

Firstly, we would like to pay a huge thank you to Bernaville Nurseries for their kind donation of plants and compost for our new patient entrance border at Searle House. They kindly agreed to donate goods to the value of £500! Our wonderful volunteer gardeners have worked their magic (despite the damp weather!) and planted them aside the new entrance. The new entrance was created to allow separate access to the ward, enabling patients and their families to be admitted in a private, dignified manner instead of via a communal reception area. These plants will add to a natural, calming and pleasant landscape for those arriving on the ward. Thank you so very much to both Bernaville Nurseries and to our wonderful team of garden volunteers!

Back in May, Holcombe Court hosted a special Open Garden event for Hospiscare. It was a lovely weekend with wonderful weather at a gorgeous location. What makes this Open Garden even more special is the record-breaking total raised! The weekend raised a phenomenal £10,042.15 making it the overall individual Open Garden record since the campaign began. This incredible amount will go towards providing vital services to our patients and families in the local area. The photo above shows volunteers and members of the community with Sharon, our area fundraiser earlier this month presenting a cheque for this contribution. Thanks to all involved both in organising and attending this successful event!

On Sunday 27 August 2023, The Taw River Inn in Sticklepath hosted a BBQ, Cider & Ale Event in true Devon style and it was a great success. The funds raised were split between two local causes, Hospiscare and Sticklepath Playing Fields Association. Thank you to all who came together for the local community. Events like this show how vital community fundraising is and that it is a great way to support your local hospice whilst also finding connection in close knit communities (and having a thoroughly good time in the process!)

Finally, we would like to pay a huge thank you to Yarcombe and District Young Farmers for their incredible fundraising efforts for Hospiscare this year. At their annual meeting earlier this week the club presented a cheque to Hospiscare for the huge sum of £15,492.02. It is so wonderful to see a community group put so much effort into fundraising. From tractor runs to cream teas, this inspirational group have engaged in such creative ways to raise awareness and funds for Hospiscare. Thank you to all involved, and to the farming community who have supported this group by donating produce, setting up and attending events and to the farmers who have loaned land for the cause. It all makes a huge difference to the patients and carers we support facing life-limiting illness in the local area.

Thank you to all our Hospiscare Heroes on behalf of our staff, patients, and their loved ones.
