Hospiscare Heroes – From festive markets to memorial services

Our Hospiscare Heroes have been flexing their superpowers to support our charity in an incredible variety of ways

Our Hospiscare Heroes are truly super; week after week, they support our local charity with their fundraising endeavours across Exeter, Mid and East Devon, ensuring we can be there for our patients and their families when they need us most.

From all of us at Hospiscare, we are sending a huge thank you to all of our Hospiscare Heroes. Read on to find out how they have been flexing their superpowers this week.

Firstly, we would like to pay a big thank you to Jo Jones and her sisters who collectively make Team Squire Sisters!  Together they raised and kindly donated an amazing £1,553.55 to Hospiscare. These funds were raised from challenges undertaken this year including an ultra marathon, charity ball,  half marathon and 55-mile walk. What an incredible amount of challenges undertaken by these remarkable women. The kindness and support of efforts like these enable Hospiscare to provide specialist services across Exeter, Mid and East Devon. With limited funding to provide these essential services we rely on fundraising efforts, donations and community support. We are so grateful for everything you do!

Crowds of visitors (and their furry friends!) at the Hospiscare stall at the fair!

Thank you very much to Exeter Friends of Hospiscare who held a stall at the Magdalen Christmas Fair on Saturday 2 December. The group sold homemade crafts for the perfect Christmas decoration or gift. The group raised an amazing £1700 with more payments still to arrive! Thank you to this wonderful group of supporters and everyone involved either organising the stall, crafting produce or visiting and donating at the fair.

Finally, our first Light Up a Life of 2023 took place at Deer Park Hotel on Sunday 3 December, it was lovely to see so many people joining together to remember their loved ones. Thank you for joining us, also thank you to the people who made this possible. These include: Hannah Williams for accompanying the Carols, Bonnie and John Burgoyne for singing so beautifully for us during the service. We must also pay a big thank you to Mark and the team at the Deer Park who made us so welcome and allowed us to share their stunning venue. Thank you to the amazing Hospiscare team and volunteers involved who made it possible for us all to remember our loved ones together and to our sponsors Shoobridge Funeral Services for supporting Light Up a Life 2023.

Light Up a Life events are annual celebrations of the lives of lost loved ones with hand-picked readings, poems, music and carols in honour and remembrance of all those people we hold dear. There are still two in-person events at Padbrook Park, Cullompton on the Sunday 10 December and Wednesday 20 December at Exeter Cathedral. You can also make dedications in the Book of Memories and Gallery of Memories. More information can be found here.

Thank you to all our Hospiscare Heroes on behalf of our staff, patients, and their loved ones.
