Our Hospiscare Heroes are truly super; week after week, they support our local charity with their fundraising endeavours across Exeter, Mid and East Devon and help to save our services for the future.
From all of us at Hospiscare, we are sending a huge thank you to all of our Hospiscare Heroes. Read on to find out how they have been flexing their super powers this week.
We are so grateful to Paul Osborne and Simon Woof (pictured above) who took the plunge for Hospiscare as part of LHC Design‘s participation in the Hospiscare 40 Club. Paul and Simon kindly opted to self-fund their skydives, meaning that all the money they raised will come directly to Hospiscare. LHC have raised over £1,350 so far as part of their 40 Club fundraising!
We are also sending our thanks to Gillian Cross who also took the plunge for Hospiscare on 10 September. Gillian chose to skydive in memory of her dad, Edward, who was cared for by Hospiscare. Gillian was aiming to raise £500 but has smashed her fundraising target with an incredible total of £720 for Hospiscare, having opted to kindly self-fund her skydive.
Thank you to Bradleys Sidmouth and Exeter St Thomas branches who recently got involved with our Coffee Morning campaign for September. Together, they raised an incredible £96.05 for our local charity.
We are sending a huge thank you to Clare Suttie and to all of the local businesses and volunteers involved in The Mail Trail. This incredible initiative of a trail of 40 knitted and crocheted post box toppers for the summer holidays has been an amazing fundraiser for Hospiscare, not to mention a fantastic local activity for the residents of Exmouth.
We are so grateful to the incredible effort that the Mail Trail team put into organising, making, and putting in place this trail, as well as keeping an eye on the toppers for those that needed repair and replacement. The Mail Trail has raised a phenomenal £5,010 for Hospiscare so far! To make a donation, please click here.
We are sending a big thank you to the team of Xpeditioners from Nexus Open Systems who took on an incredible 35km walk in just one day to raise funds for our local charity. Team Nexus raised over £780!
Thank you to Wain Homes for their recent donation to our hospice charity! The team held a car wash and raised a fantastic £300! Thank you to all of the staff who took part and all of the customers who donated in exchange for squeaky clean cars!
Thank you to Jonathan Beddall who ran the Tallinn Marathon on 11 September in memory of his dad, Quentin (pictured above). Jonathan has raised an incredible £7,882 so far in his father’s memory and says, “In February 2021, our family received the news that our father, Quentin, had terminal cancer. By June, he had left us.
“Whilst cancer rips families apart, Hospiscare provides end-of-life dignity, care and support to anyone in need, to families like ours across Exeter, Mid and East Devon. No words can do justice to the man, husband and father Dad was, but we can at least do our bit to show our thanks to the people who showed up for us, when we needed it most.”

We are also sending our thanks to Wendy Holt who took part in the Warhorse 10k on Sunday 18 September to raise funds for Hospiscare in memory of her friend, Mark. Initially, Wendy set out to raise £200 for Hospiscare, but she’s raced past her target and raised a fantastic £400! Here’s a great picture of Wendy at the finish line, sporting a pair of Ruby Fury Hospiscare shorts!
We would like to say a huge thank you to Harry Buckley who completed the final leg of his cycle ride from Land’s End to John O’Groats on 18 September.
Harry’s Nana, Marnie Burgoyne, was part of the founding team who helped raise the funds to build the hospice and was a keen supporter of Hospiscare for many years. Sadly, she was later diagnosed with terminal cancer and received end-of-life care at the hospice until she passed away. Fundraising for Hospiscare is now a family affair:;every year the Marnie Burgoyne Memorial Golf Day is held and Harry’s Grandad, David, continues to support Hospiscare. This year, David has been helping raise awareness of Harry’s Land’s End to John O’Groats cycle. Excluding costs, Harry has raised an incredible £3941.81 for Hospiscare and says,
“It was extremely tough but there were a few things that stood out, such as crossing the Forth Road Bridge at sunrise, climbing two ski resorts and then of course arriving at John O’Groats!”

We would also like to thank the Unifii team who are continuing on their virtual walk around the world to raise money for our local hospice. Last week, they reached Latvia! The team have raised over £900 as part of their 40 Club fundraising. To donate to their virtual walk, please click here.
Finally, we are sending our thanks to Paul Webber who is holding a truly unique fundraiser for Hospiscare: an ‘iron-a-thon’! Paul explains, “The aim of this live stream is to raise much-needed funds for Hospiscare. I will be doing my usual ironing but at the same time, asking you to “buy me a coffee” and the proceeds raised will go directly to Hospiscare as part of their Coffee Morning fundraising initiative.”
Paul’s live stream will take place on 25 September. To get involved with Paul’s ‘iron-a-thon’, please click here.
