Our Hospiscare Heroes are truly super; week after week, they support our local charity with their fundraising endeavours across Exeter, Mid and East Devon, ensuring we can be there for our patients and their families when they need us most.
From all of us at Hospiscare, we are sending a huge thank you to all of our Hospiscare Heroes. Read on to find out how they have been flexing their superpowers this week.
Firstly, we would like to thank Tessa Chapman and her sister Anna Byles who walked 30 miles along the South West Coast Path from Exmouth to Lyme Regis on 22nd May for Hospiscare. So far, they have raised an incredible £3,954 for Hospiscare. The charity was chosen in memory of their late brother in law, Simon, whose birthday it would have been and who was cared for by Hospiscare at end of life nearly ten years ago.
Thank you so much Tessa and Anna for taking on this challenge for our charity. If you would like to find out more or donate you can find their JustGiving page here.
Challenges like these by brave supporters like Anna and Tessa continue to enable Hospiscare to provide specialist care to more patients across Devon. We are so grateful!
Next, we would like to thank everyone at The Lord Nelson Pub and Kitchen in Topsham who held their Summer Festival in aid of Hospiscare on Saturday 25 May. This afternoon of live music had performances by: Dr Oz the Band, Nikita Louis and Busker Rhymes. The event was a great success (despite mother nature!) and entry donations were collected for our charity. We are so grateful to everyone who organised, performed at or attended this lovely local event.
Thank you to the community for supporting your local adult hospice charity, enabling us to care for patients with a terminal illness and their families across the heart of Devon.
Finally, we must pay a huge thank you to the Great West Run Hospiscare Heroes who did us proud! The annual event was held on Sunday 26 May and the challenging route spans through the beautiful centre of Exeter and its countryside. Each member of the team had their own special reasons for taking on this challenge. For some it was part of a personal fitness journey and for others, it was a way of honouring and celebrating the memory of a loved one. But after months of training hard whatever the weather, they set out on Sunday with a shared mission in mind: to conquer the Great West Run 2024 and raise vital funds for Hospiscare. We’d like to say a huge thank you and congratulations to: Andy, Samantha, Dean, Alex, Amy, Rowan, Christine, Laura, Debbie, Martin, Matt, Duncan, Jess, Asia, Alice, Talia, Jonnie, Stephen, Chris, George and George!
So far, #TeamHospiscare have raised over £8,000 and we hope that their amazing total will continue to climb! (Just like they did, when faced with the notorious University hill!)
We’d also like to say thank you to our Hospiscare Cheer Squad for braving the rain clouds to show their support and cheer on #TeamHospiscare with plenty of enthusiasm and jingle bells.
Hospiscare is funded by your generosity; just 18% of our funding comes from the NHS. Fundraising events such as Exeter’s Great West Run allow us to provide our expert end-of-life care at no cost to our patients and their families.
