Hospiscare Heroes – From space themed sweet treats to challenge champions!

Our Hospiscare Heroes have been flexing their superpowers to support our charity in an incredible variety of ways

Our Hospiscare Heroes are truly super; week after week, they support our local charity with their fundraising endeavours across Exeter, Mid and East Devon, ensuring we can be there for our patients and their families when they need us most.

From all of us at Hospiscare, we are sending a huge thank you to all of our Hospiscare Heroes. Read on to find out how they have been flexing their superpowers this week.

Firstly, we would like to thank Bradleys in Honiton who held a Star Wars themed bake sale for us on 4 May (Star Wars day!) and raised a fantastic £210 for Hospiscare.

Brownies, cupcakes, lemon drizzle and a huge Victoria sponge all went down a real treat and the event was well attended and supported by the local community. Unsurprisingly there weren’t many leftovers – but Bradleys are looking forward to hosting more coffee and cake mornings in the future!

Bradleys are also holding a Charity Quiz Night on 9 June, with quiz Quiz Master Ashley and fabulous Co-host Roberta Calamari. Thank you for all you have done and continue to do for our charity.

Never one to shy away from an adventure, having completed Hospiscare’s Himalayan Trek in 2022, 86 year-old Len has set himself a Triple Challenge this year! His latest challenge saw him traverse shifting sands as he tackled two back-to-back desert treks in Jordan.

Len said: “Every donation will inspire and focus me in completing this triple adventure, enabling others the solid support that I experienced up to and after Christine’s passing.”

We think you’ll agree that Len’s drive and determination to raise vital funds for Hospiscare make him a true Hospiscare Hero. Thank you, Len!

So far Leonard has raised £360 for Hospiscare – and it’s not too late to show your support and donate today! On 3rd August, Len will be taking on the Dunster Castle 50k. You can find his JustGiving page here.

We’d also like to thank Hospiscare Hero, Adelle, who recently completed the Plymouth Half Marathon! Adelle crossed the finish line in style and raced past her fundraising target, raising an amazing £410 to help fund end of life and palliative care across Exeter, Mid and East Devon.

Thank you, Adelle! You can find her JustGiving page here.

We’d like to say a massive THANK YOU to Hospiscare Hero, Jack! Jack undertook the Brecon Beacon’s Ultra Marathon (54km!) in memory of his Grandad and has raised an incredible £550.

Jack explained:

“I’m doing [this], in recognition of the help they gave to my Grandad who had terminal cancer, towards the end of his life. We were so grateful for their help in ensuring he was pain free and that his needs were responded to. I’m not expecting to be pain free on this run however, but I’m honoured to do this in memory of him.”

If you’d like to make a donation and show your support, visit his JustGiving page here.
