Hospiscare Heroes: From Summer Fete to World of Country Life

Our Hospiscare Heroes are the true Superheroes.

Week after week, they dedicate their time, energy, and creativity to fundraising for our local charity, making a profound difference in the lives of our patients and their families across Exeter, Central, and East Devon.

Let’s take a look at some of the incredible ways they’ve been using their extraordinary talents to support our cause.

Our first story transports us to the breathtaking Cadhay House, a historic estate surrounded by beautifully manicured gardens in Ottery St. Mary. On August 26, wonderful people from the Otter Vale Friends of Hospiscare hosted the much-loved Cadhay Summer Fete. The event buzzed with the sounds of live music, the sizzle of a BBQ, and the joy of families enjoying bouncy castles, raffles, and more.

This beloved community event could not have taken place without the generous support of Margaret Ford, who had the honour of opening the fete, and Mr. R. Thistlethwayte of Cadhay, who graciously allowed Hospiscare to use the stunning grounds.

A special thanks to all the incredible volunteers whose efforts made the day a success, the local businesses who donated raffle prizes, the talented entertainers who kept the crowds engaged, and, of course, the amazing community for their unwavering support.

Together, we raised an incredible £7,173 for Hospiscare, a testament to the power of community spirit. From everyone at Hospiscare, thank you for making this event truly special.

Next, we celebrate our heroes from Tesco. Community champion Lisa and her dedicated team from Budleigh Salterton Rd Tesco in Exmouth, alongside their counterparts from Clyst Vale Tesco, have proven that Tesco’s motto, “Every little helps,” is more than just words – it’s a philosophy that makes a difference.

Their recent support during the Devon and Somerset Fire Rescue Open Day, where they provided supplies for the BBQ and lent a hand at the Tin Can Alley stall, was deeply appreciated.

We are truly fortunate to have incredible heroes like Debbie Butler and her dedicated team. On July 22, at World of Country Life, Devon’s award-winning family attraction, they demonstrated that kindness and compassion are the true foundations of community.

Their efforts helped bring families together in a day filled with joy, proving that simple acts of generosity can create lasting connections.

Much loved

We would also like to take a moment to express our heartfelt gratitude to all the families who have created a Tribute Page in memory of their loved ones. These Tribute Pages offer not only a way to support Hospiscare, but also a space where families and friends can share cherished memories, light virtual candles, and celebrate special occasions together.

In the past 12 months, through the generosity of these families and their communities, an incredible £58,403.45 has been raised to support Hospiscare patients and their loved ones.

If you’d like to honour a loved one through fundraising, creating a Tribute Page is easy and free. You can set up your own page at www.muchloved.com, and start your fundraising journey today.
