Hospiscare Heroes – From walking challenges to carnivals

Our Hospiscare Heroes have been flexing their super powers to support our charity at this difficult time

Our Hospiscare Heroes are truly super; week after week, they support our local charity with their fundraising endeavours across Exeter, Mid and East Devon and help to save our services for the future. Every pound raised can help keep our vital care service running for local people in need.

From all of us at Hospiscare, we are sending a huge thank you to all of our Hospiscare Heroes. Read on to find out how they have been flexing their super powers this week.

We are sending a huge thank you to Alan Rowe MBE for taking on an incredible challenge to support our Emergency SOS Appeal. On February 26, Alan embarked on an epic trek of over 300 miles to walk the boundary line of our care in Exeter, Mid and East Devon.

Along the way, Alan celebrated the 10 year anniversary of receiving his MBE for ‘services to the community, especially Hospiscare’, as well as his 71st birthday!

Alan is carrying ‘The Baton’, a symbol of his military charity of the same name, to remind and encourage military charities to make a donation to their local hospices for the care they give to veterans.

On March 8, Alan reached the 100 mile mark and he has raised over £1,600 for Hospiscare so far! Thank you so much Alan, and to all of those who have joined you on your walk and contributed to your fundraising. From everyone here at Hospiscare, we are rooting for you.

We are also sending our thanks to Honiton Carnival for their recent generous donation of £200 to our local charity.

Thank you to Lyme Bay Winery who joined our 40 Club this year and pledged to raise £1,000 for our local charity. As part of their fundraising, Steve and Hannah (pictured above) from Lyme Bay took on The Grizzly, a local challenge event that the business has sponsored for many years with their Lugger Spiced Rum.

This multi-terrain race across the glorious East Devon coastline took place on Sunday 6 March and Steve and Hannah took on The Cub – a nine mile version of the event. They completed the epic challenge in under two hours and have raised almost £300 for our local charity! To donate to Lyme Bay’s Grizzly fundraising effort, please click here.

We would also like to send our thanks to Jeanette Porter who is planning to walk 80 miles over the course of this month to raise money for Hospiscare in memory of her husband, John.

Finally, we would like to thank everyone who has chosen Hospiscare as their Amazon Smile charity. Between 1 October and 31 December 2021, purchases made through Amazon Smile resulted in a donation of £270.02 to our charity.
