Hospiscare Heroes: Reaching New Heights in the Name of Compassion

Our HospiscareHeroes have once again shown what it truly means to be fearless.

This week’s Hospiscare Heroes blog is dedicated to a group of extraordinary supporters who have taken to the skies,  jumping from a plane to help raise essential funds for local people facing terminal illness and their families.

Let’s dive straight into this week’s special edition….

Skydiving is often described as the ultimate leap of faith – hurtling through the air at an incredible speed with nothing but courage and a parachute to rely on. It’s an act that demands not just a willingness to confront fears, but also a resolve to rise above them.

For our Hospiscare Heroes, this wasn’t just an adrenaline rush – it was a jump with purpose. With every inch of their free-fall, they were making a stand for, and raising vital funds that, will go towards compassionate care for those facing the toughest of times.

We couldn’t be more grateful to each and every one of these heroes who have, quite literally, gone sky-high for their local hospice.

Nick Madden

Last month, Hospiscare Hero Nick Madden found himself doing something he never thought he would: climbing into a plane and jumping out of it! Nick has been an unwavering supporter of Hospiscare for years, through Hospiscare 40 Club members Cornwall Glass. When a colleague couldn’t make the skydive, Nick didn’t hesitate to step in. His daring leap raised over £1,400 in support of Hospiscare’s essential services. Thank you to Nick, Cornwall Glass, and everyone who supported this fantastic effort!

Nick Frost

Our heartfelt thanks go to Hospiscare Trustee Nick Frost, who completed his skydive on 13 September in memory of his beloved wife, Emma. Battling vertigo, Nick braved the skies to raise funds in recognition of the support Emma received in our care.

“Hospiscare isn’t funded by the NHS or Government; astoundingly only 15% of costs are covered by the Government, and the rest comes from donations. Without this incredible support, Emma wouldn’t have had the pain relief she needed in her final days.”

Nick’s leap of faith raised a phenomenal £2,695. Thank you, Nick – your strength and dedication is an inspiration to us all.

Carrie

Hospiscare Hero Carrie took fundraising to new heights with her skydive from 15,000 feet. Her courage and compassion shone through as she raised a wonderful £320 to help local patients and their families. Carrie’s leap proves just how impactful a single act of courage can be. Thank you, Carrie, for supporting Hospiscare in such an extraordinary way.

Julie-Anne and Dominique

Our gratitude extends to the dynamic duo, Julie-Anne and Dominique. When Julie-Anne signed up for the skydive, little did she know that Dominique would end up taking her place! Together, they raised an impressive £830 for Hospiscare, showing that teamwork and adaptability can make a lasting difference. Thank you, Julie-Anne and Dominique, for your inspiring commitment to our cause.

Harry Turner

We’re incredibly grateful to Harry Turner, who, alongside his father, took to the skies in support of Hospiscare. Raising £1,110, Harry and his dad made a powerful father-son team. Harry’s dad, also a charity supporter, was raising funds for prostate cancer on the day. They’ve promised to keep up their fundraising efforts together, with the next challenge already a hot topic of discussion between them. Thank you, Harry, for your courage and dedication – we’re proud to have you as one of our Hospiscare Heroes!

Sharon Collins

Our final thank you goes to Hospiscare Area Fundraiser, Sharon Collins, whose positive spirit and ‘can-do’ attitude are always out in full force. On 11 May 2025 Sharon and her daughter will take to the skies to celebrate the lives of those dear to them, whom Hospiscare supported in their final days.

“Hospiscare is a local charity that is very dear to my heart. They have cared for some of my very special friends who I have loved and lost.” Sharon said on her JustGivingPage

Thank you for your enduring enthusiasm and support!
