Hospiscare Heroes – Virtually Twilight 2020

Like everything in lockdown, our much-loved Twilight Walk was a little different this year

Twilight Walkers

For this Hospiscare Heroes update, we are sending out a very special thank you to our Twilight walkers and supporters. This year’s Twilight Walk was certainly like no other and we were overwhelmed by the support and dedication of our community at Virtually Twilight.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, we came very close to not holding a Twilight Walk this year. After careful consideration, we decided to create Virtually Twilight; an event that captured the essence of Twilight Walk whilst also being safe for all of our participants.

Virtually Twilight would not have been possible without the kind sponsorship from Jurassic Fibre; thank you to all of the team for supporting the event and for sharing it across social media.

Jurassic Fibre and Hospiscare

On Saturday 4 July, our Twihards came together (virtually, of course) to walk a distance and route of their choice in household or socially distanced groups to raise money for our local charity.

At 6pm, the Virtually Twilight broadcast began with a welcome and fantastic warm-up from LED Leisure. We are sending our warmest thanks to Ingrid and the team at LED Leisure for starting the evening with such an energised warm-up and for all of their hard work in promoting Virtually Twilight.

Once everyone was thoroughly warmed up, dressed up and in the Virtually Twilight spirit, our amazing walkers set off on their routes across the heart of Devon. On their return, our walkers treated themselves to some refreshments and we had some fantastic entries to our ‘Best Dressed’ and ‘Best Walk’ competitions! A huge thank you to Tesco in Exmouth for generously donating the prizes for all three of our Virtually Twilight competitions.

Virtually Twilight walkers with love hearts

At 8pm, we had a quiet moment of reflection where we lit candles in memory of loved ones who are no longer with us.

The evening finished with an up-beat performance from local covers band The New Heroes. The band put on a truly phenomenal set of toe-tapping, hip-wiggling music and we are extremely grateful to The New Heroes who went above and beyond to end the evening on a real high. You can view their amazing performance here.

We are so grateful to everyone who took part in Virtually Twilight; to those that walked, fundraised, donated and shared the event. We have been overwhelmed by the dedication of #HospiscareTeamVT and the generosity of friends, family and members of the community who have donated.

We are so proud to announce that you, our Hospiscare Virtually Twilight Heroes, have raised over £15,000! Thank you all for your phenomenal effort for our local charity.

We will be announcing the winner of our ‘Top Fundraiser’ competition across our social media channels on 20 July so watch this space!
