Stepping up in honour of Helen

Rachel shares why she is running a series of marathons and taking part in our new Summer Walk to support Hospiscare

Honiton based Hospiscare supporter, Rachel Payne, has been running a series of marathons this year to raise funds for our local charity in honour of her mother, Helen.

After Helen’s terminal cancer diagnosis, Rachel and her family experienced the support of Hospiscare. This experience inspired Rachel to start her fundraising journey to ensure this service continues to be available for families like theirs in such difficult circumstances.

Rachel has already taken on the Sir Walter Raleigh Half Marathon, Jurassic Coast Ultra Challenge, Dartmoor Ultra Marathon and even the London Marathon in aid of Hospiscare, but she hasn’t stopped there – she continues to take steps to make a difference and has signed up to take part in our upcoming Summer Walk at Darts Farm.

Rachel explains, “Hospiscare is just such an amazing charity. It gave so much support to my mum over the years, and particularly to us as a family at the very end. I still do not know how we would have coped without the end-of-life care team.

“The love, care and compassion they showed throughout mum’s final days at home will never be forgotten. They provide such incredible support to families in need – fundraising is our way of giving back and showing our thanks.

“I can’t wait to take part in the Summer Walk on 8 July, as it’s something the whole family can take part in – I’ll be with my husband and children and my brother and sister-in-law and their children.

“Running ultra challenges and marathons can be hard going. This time I am really looking forward to enjoying the walk, taking my time and having fun with the children. The strawberries and Pimms on offer are an added bonus!”
